What does the phrase "praying for you" really mean? I find that it has lost all of it's intended power, strength, and encouragement. It's tossed around so carelessly that it has because something that doesn't have any meaning or encouragement. Why has this happened? Why have these words, that potentially, could have so much POWER been reduced to nothing?
I think for me, one of my biggest prejudices against this phrase is because it is used so often without meaning behind it. I know people that don't believe in God at all and say it. I've seen people that don't ever go to church, read their bible, or pray. So, how can you pray for someone when you don't believe in it yourself?
James 5:16 in the amplified version states: "The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]"
If, when we pray, it created power that was dynamic then think of how different our world could be if everyone who said these three simple words actually followed through.
Think how many sick people could be healed.
Think about how many hurt and troubled nations could see some sunshine.
Think about how many little girls could escape the world of prostitution.
Think about the progress that could be made in world hunger.
Think about how the missions world could be enhanced.
Think about how the underground church could use the power to become bolder and reach more people.
Think about it.
Now, I'm not saying that we all need to be praying every second of the day, fasting for months on end, and not have any fun anymore. I'm challenging you to take 10 or 20 minutes out of your day and pray for those that are less fortunate than you.
1Timothy 2:1 "I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede[pray what God wants for them] on their behalf, and give thanks for them."
Next time you use this phrase, follow through! Maybe you could be that little bit extra that makes miracles happen.
